Flaming June seems apt for a month where half the nights seemed to be insufferably hot. I enjoyed some wonderfully sunny days and some great times with friends and family. Especially Pete who paid a (mostly) surprise visit from New Zealand! The summer really is a time to try and heal our dreary souls from the darkness of winter and early spring. I already feel slightly rejuvenated and there’s still more summer to come. How did I get on this month.
1) Get a new job or find a way of making current role more enjoyable.
No real jobs have popped up that have caught my eye so no applications to be carried out this month. Kind of a good thing as it’s a pig to try and complete these applications in the evening after a full day of work (not that that should be any excuse). As before, I just keep reminding myself that I’m in a safe job and that should be counted as a blessing at least. I will keep looking but overall I’m not despairing so that’s a win so far.
2) Explore Japan with Lucy.
Booked the taxis to the airport and Lucy has sorted her passport out. My planning blogs for Japan are quite popular on the WordPress Reader; I guess people like reading about travels and adventure! If you want to read more about my future travels then go to the Japan tab at the top right of your screen!
3) Actually paint some miniatures.
With the new edition of 40K landing I am totally thrown with my plans for army building and painting. I caved and bought Saint Celestine as it’s a beautiful miniature. I also bought the Shrine of the Aquilla to make a perfect ruined base for those Plastic Sisters of Battle that might come one day.
I think I will be carrying on with my
Imperial Guard Astra Militarum army as they’ve been good fun in this edition so far. Now to find a colour scheme for them…
4) Sell some of the dead weight.
No sales this month but I finally finished what we can do in the kitchen. I also gave the giant bag of DVDs (probably 100) to Kendal and Dan to pick out what they want before giving to charity. Nice to see other people getting to use something that’s collecting dust. If you know anyone who needs, like, 200 old Bretonnian models let me know yeah?
5) Look after myself a lot more.
Mentally and emotionally it’s been quite hard this month – mostly at the beginning. The stress of Lucy’s uni work spilled out over to me and there have been other factors that have knocked me down a bit; but largely I’m feeling okay. Lucy has now finished her degree though! So stupidly proud of her.
Due to money constraints I’ve been forcing myself to make more lunches and buy less takeaway. Sad news is that I fucking love a big dirty burger. Good news is that my whole body feels better just two weeks in. I guess this is one case of enforced austerity actual having a positive effect.
6) Read more and challenge my own opinions.
So finished This Book Will Save Your Life. It was okay. Can’t say it was the best novel but had some interesting ideas in it. Daniel, a friend of mine, lent me a copy of a book called Battle Circle which looked like it was going to be shit but has actually turned out to be a Fallout inspiring romp through a post apocalyptic world. Awesome. Thanks buddy – I’ve almost read a trilogy in a month.
It’s definitely been a Month of challenges though. Grenfell, the snap election, hung parliaments and oh Jeremy Corbyn have created a great atmosphere for argument and debate. I am lucky to work in a building with people from diverse backgrounds and hearing peoples differing opinions over the tumultuous issues that have affected the UK in the last month has been really engaging.
7) Finish the copy editing and proofreading course even if I’m not really enjoying it.
I feel I should replace this with something. Make some suggestions below!
8) Blog weekly.
Yeah this Month was rubbish. A former workmate Paul, gave me some top ideas for a new blog but I think I was too busy melting in the evening to want to sit in my pants and write at a desk. The only blogs I’ve written have been at the end of the month in the same week!
Overall June has been a good month. Not a huge amount of progress with work and blogging but it’s been a good month for my heart, mind and soul. It doesn’t matter where I get my wins from as long as I get some!
Mostly I want the world to know once more that Lucy is an absolute legend. Completing her degree after years of hard work is something that she should be eternally proud of. Also, she is now officially smarter than me having achieved a 2:1 in her degree.
